Maple Popcorn

Jaa!

Simple, and at least not unhealthy if not really healthy, snacks can be a life saver sometimes. After a long day I very often just want to lie on my sofa in front of my TV and eat something preferably in big quantities. Then I make popcorn. Popcorn is really easy to make, doesn’t cost a lot or be unhealthy and you can have a tons of flavor variations.

Popcorn makes a delicious and healthy snack when made right.

Popcorn is not an unhealthy snack

I’m not really sure how healthy corn is, but for sure popped corn is not an unhealthy snack if you do it properly. Microwave popcorn is full of salt and saturated fats but you don’t need either to make a big cosy bowl of popcorn.

Home popped corn is a healthy snack. You can do popcorn totally without salt or oil.

How to make popcorn without oil and salt?

I have seen in stores a special bowls for making pop corn in microwave. They are marketed really well as they are made to look like some kind of a miracle machines that turn normally so unhealthy popcorn into superfood. But any bowl that can be covered and put in microwave will do the same, or you can use microwave proof paper bags. And there really isn’t any need for fat or salt.

I do my popcorns on a stove in a large pot. I heat the pot a little first and then I add the corn kernels to cover the bottom of the pot. I cover the pot with a lid, put oven mittens on and wait. As soon as I hear the first pop I crab the pot and start to shake it like every three seconds. Once the pot turns silent again the popcorn is ready.

I don’t usually add any salt as my kids love popcorn and will eat a lot of it every time we prepare it. They are still really small and salt is especially bad for little people. And imagine this: you have three kids and you make the mistake of giving them something salty to eat in the evening. It means that you are up every hour bringing milk and filling water bottles. Multiplied by three, they never wake up at the same time.
