All fruits and berries taste amazing dipped in chocolate but cherries and chocolate go together particularly well. Chocolate coated cherries are easy and quick to make without any added sweeteners.
I love sweet and juicy cherries. Although cherries are not very high in calories they contain quite a high amount of sugar. If you are just in the beginning of your sugar-free life you might be better off them. Once you have passed those critical first weeks and months and are over with the sweet cravings you can bring cherries back into your diet. Cherries contain a lot of vitamin c and although they are high in sugar they don’t cause the blood sugar levels to spike.
Chocolate covered cherries are a nice party snack too. With the amounts of ingredients in the recipe, you will coat a LOT of cherries and they are quick to make.

The chocolate layer on a cherry dipped only once in the chocolate is quite thin. If you want a thicker cover, then just dip the cherries in the chocolate more than once. Let the previous layer set completely before dipping again. Raw cacao powder is strong in taste so I recommend to taste a cherry after the first layer before going crazy with dipping them.
I rolled my cherries in shredded coconut but it’s totally optional or you could try ground nuts. Specially pistachios go really well with cherries.
- 3 tbsp coconut oil, melted
- 3 tbsp raw cacao powder
- Mix the raw cacao powder in the melted coconut oil. If you need to heat the oil to melt it, let it cool to room temperature before starting the dipping.
- Dip the cherries in the chocolate one at a time.
- Put them on a parchment paper to set. Refrigerate for 5 minutes before serving.
- Keep in refrigerator.
